Green Finance Key to Reducing CO2 Emissions, Study Shows
New research highlights the environmental and economic benefits of green finance in G7 countries.

New research published in Business Strategy and the Environment highlights the role of green finance in reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Focusing on G7 countries, the study found that loans, investments, and incentives supporting environmentally friendly projects can positively impact both the environment and the economy.
The research indicates that while economic development in G7 nations has adversely affected environmental conditions, green finance initiatives offer a path forward. By investing in projects that promote sustainability, these countries can mitigate the environmental damage caused by industrialisation while still achieving economic growth.
Dr. Kaliyan Mathiyazhagan, from the Thiagarajar School of Management, emphasised the importance of integrating environmental considerations into corporate strategies. “Companies must ensure that their growth strategies incorporate environmental considerations to avoid exacerbating carbon dioxide emissions and climate change,” he said.
The findings suggest that businesses across industries can play a vital role in sustainability by prioritising investments in green finance and renewable energy projects. Additionally, the data shows that such investments are not only beneficial for the environment but can also deliver financial returns, further incentivising their adoption.
As the urgency of climate change becomes ever clearer, this research underscores the importance of innovative financial solutions in tackling global environmental challenges.
